Blackbird singing at 4am ! (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

Hi there,

This is the first time I've used this forum.

I wonder if anyone could answer this question...

For the past two mornings a blackbird was singing at 4am. I am wondering why this would happen in the middle of December...? I live in the suburbs of Dundee, and there's not too much street light, we have relatively large gardens.

The only thing I am guessing is that it's been very mild lately 10c - 12c during the night I wonder if this could affect bird behaviour ?

Hi Jim and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

It usually is lights that set them off (and Robins too). Perhaps there's a security light that is coming on? I can't think of any other reason, dawn is such a long way off, isn't it!! Maybe if you post in the Bird Behaviour forum, someone reading in there might have some other ideas.

All things Scottish can be found here. Also, keep an eye on threads titled something like Scottish Bashes; we try to meet up occasionally and they're always great fun. You'd be most welcome to join us on another if you can manage.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
