Hi,

4 little fledglings appeared in my garden yesterday. They seemed healthy but didnt fly and the parents were coming down frequently. Today I saw them flying around a bit and being able to fly up and down short distances but when I checked in the evening only one is left. Is it likely they learnt how to fly and went back to the nest or flew away after just one day or something happened to them? I've searched everywhere but there are no signs they were attacked.

Thanks for your answer.

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

It's quite normal for fledglings to hang out on the ground and the parents will come and feed them for a bit but the parents do try to get them to act on their own. It's possible that 3 of them have learned to get around a bit and the last one is just either stubborn ;) or is a bit slower. Chances are the fledglings are hanging out in some nearby bushes.
