Message: <blockquote data-quote="John Cantelo" data-source="post: 1873663" data-attributes="member: 2844">This book on BoPs (birds of paradise) looks to be as much an ethnological/historical tome as a birding one - and no less interesting for that!  I know Helm has a 'more traditional' BoP book 'in the works' and have been fortunate enough to see a couple of plates - they're absolutely superb!  However, since one of the projects' authors sadly died recently, it's anyone's guess when it will actually appear.  I'd certainly echo Nicola's request for a trimmed down version of the Collins guide, but would prefer a European focus rather than a solely Brirtish one.  Having seen the Danish version, I'd love to see an up dated & expanded to cover a couple of rarities) English version of Klaus Mallig Olsen's  identification guide to European BoPs ("prey" not "paradise"!).  The plates are gorgeous and Mr Olsen wouldn't write anything that was other than outstanding!  I remain astonished that no publisher appears to have snapped up the rights for a English version.  If only I read Danish I'd translate it for nothing!As for Rose's site guide to Iberia (mentioned earlier), I think we're past the point where a one volume treatment of Spain (let alone the whole peninsular) is either possible or desirable.  Indeed I think Helm's magnificent two volume guide to birding sites in Spain is far too little!</blockquote>
