Brazil 2024 - independent with non birding wife (1 Viewer)

So after over a year of preparation we are on our way to Brazil. Family holiday with occasional bird guides hired privately.

4 nights Rio - and a day with a local bird guide
2 nights Iquacu - and a day with a local bird guide
1 night São Paulo
4 nights Aymara in the pantanal - and a day on a jaguar trip down in Porto jofre (seriously expensive)
2 nights Chapada - and a morning with a local bird guide
3 nights Cristalino (obviously expensive)
1 night São Paulo

Judging by your eBird checklist, you saw some great birds in the end. Iguaçu Falls wasn't that great a trip for me as it's so darn touristy (pre-birding days as a Brazilian-Brit) but I imagine with the right bird guide, there's a much to see. Thanks for sharing these Brazil trip reports. Glad the Rio part worked out. Looking forward to reading about the rest of the trip.

An interesting post - I am thinking about going to the Pantanal one year on my own. (I speak ok Portuguese) - why did you go in the UK summer was it just convenient or is it a good time of year for there?

I'm not sure if it's the best time of year, as I didn't really have a choice, but it is a good time of year.

School holidays (my wife is a teacher). I think we were particularly unlucky to get a very cold wet spell that followed us from east to west.
