they are VERY good for the money , good balance , central res very sharp, but they are in effect only 10x40 s . try a few pairs in the shop i found about two in ten were no buys. very good CHEAP bins , but a bit fragile. see cloudy nights astro forum for a review . :t:

I own 2 pairs of the Bresser/Meade Lidl bins
They are incredible for the money but as Stuart rightly says check them before buying as some suffer from Quality Control at this price point
I have used mine on many occassions as car boot pairs and they are much much better than the usual bargain bin culprits
As for the Bushnell discovererers i will be collecting a pair later this year from Florida friends during vacation at the same price as your link
I have tried a pair briefly and they are also excellent and incidentaly i believe the coatings and phase coatings are the same as the Bushnell Elite models
If this is the case then this is a high quality roof

Cant go wrong either way bear in mind the Bushnells have wider fov and are waterproof also probably more durable

Hi Stuart C,

I cannot find the 'astro forum' or the review you refer to.

I don't know my way around cloudy nights, can you provide a link please?

Thanks.
John

The good news is that they are back on offer again, in Sheffield UK at least, as from Monday 7th April.
They are certainly exceedingly good value even at the now super inflated price of £11.99

Yep got myself a pair today as a "car boot pair" and blimey I'm impressed as to how good they are for £11.99. They have a bright field of view and feel comfy in the hand(well mine anyway). There almost as good as my opticron 8x42 I paid £100 for 2 years back. Go on treat yourselves.. :t:

I might give them a go for the crack.

I got the 8x56 at christmass time and have been well pleased with them.

Try before you buy tho!!!!!

After being out birding this morning I went to Lidl in Uttoxeter and picked up a pair, they have to be a bargain. I'd repeat the advice to open the box and have a look out the window of the supermarket before parting with cash, the first one I picked up had very loose eye cap.

For your £11.99 you get the bins, a strap, case, rainguard and front caps. Been having a go with them in the garden since getting home and have to say for the money I don't think you can go wrong. They are pretty sharp and no obvious colour distortion. Pretty lightweight and easy to hold.

Well worth getting to have a spare pair for the car boot, desk at work etc or even for a young birder starting out.
