I vote for Rusty too, its much too rusty (haha...) for Brewer's in this plumage.

In agreeing with the Brewer's possibility, I assumed that the "rusty" areas were photographic artifacts resulting from over-enlargement, under-exposure etc. Maybe the OP can enlighten us on the appearance of the bird in life?

It seems so to me also, but it's really hard to be sure.

It appeared to have a dark eye, but the rusty brown color was for real. From behind, the bird looked black except for the head area. Rusty seems right
