Brief comparison between Zeiss 8 power binos (1 Viewer)

He did mention that the 8X32 SF is not found in South Korea, I think.

As for his being opinionated, I suspect we all are, but worse than being opinionated is unwillingness to change an opinion having seen evidence that it is wrong.
That is profound and interesting.

yes I knew main and only distributor of Zeiss in korea. they said they have sold 1 10x32 sf last year and no idea of 8x32.
in 32mm, EL & NL is too dominant in Korean high grade market.
10x32 NL is the most widely used alphas though Korean expert or wealthy birders.

never seen someone use uv32 or edg32 in birding too

Jack:
I agree with you, it is fun to talk about binoculars. There are lots of choices out there, and that is
a good thing.
Jerry
I really want to try SF 32 but main distributor has no plan to restock it.

Korean bino mania community is small so I can hear who got what bino. I never heard of whom even get to soo SF 32mm
and there is no sample in Korea.

it's a unicorn in Korean market like Nikon WX

poket binos are for that reason. despite their low apparent brightness, bad ease of view
I've still got my Ultravid 8x20..... fiddly awkward little things.
But 2 important points...
They DO go in a pocket, especially in a cloth sunglass pouch,
And the DO amaze me at the optical quality given the compromise they are!!

yes I have HGL 8x20 for every day carry.
but I like the compactness and build quality of leica

it have best compactness and build quality between pocket binos. that can justify it's high price to whom looking for smallest bino

Swaro 25mm pocket is of course best in optics and better ease of view but it is bit big and heavy for pocket use

Exactly that... I sold my Swaro 25's as they were a bit too big.... better optically than the Leica 8x20, as are the Zeiss VP's, I really like those too... and no eye relief problems for me!!!.... but neither do the 'pocket bino' like the Leicas.
That's a great comparison shot, showing just how much bigger the Swaros are... I'd actually forgotten.

How is glare suppression in each of these?
Not great with the Leicas... however they are so small that i wrap my hand around them and over the objective lens end, making a sunshield, and they are fine. This is only when provoked to looking near the direction of the sun... other than that, they are fine, and superb optically.... little optical gems.

didn't mainly checked it closly as other parts
so I don't have a total comparison. especially for fl 8x32 which I looked only under daylight.

others

CHD < HT42 < SFL30 < SFL 40
Just so I don't get confused, glare is suppressed the worst in CHD, that is, glare performance is best for SFL40. Or is that the other way around?

you will like these photos too πŸ˜€

Swaro pocket is not a real pocket bino optic and hardware

it's optic is better then CL 8x30 thats why it is not a pocket optics.

it's compactness is bit big to say it is a pocket

so

too good to be pocket + too big to be pocket

I like curio 7x21 best.
pockt size, optically better then CL 8x25

NV has very good glare suppression significantly better then UV.

but leica control glare much better then sumilar sized bino

I have had a Leica Ultravid 8x20 for some fifteen years. My sample has probably the most perfect, aberration-free optics of any of the binoculars I have ever used or tested, and is supremely pocketable. However, I do not like using it. I just don't get along with binoculars with less than 3 mm exit pupils, never finding them satisfyingly sharp or contrasty or easy to use, even this Leica the quality of which I know for sure. Go figure.

jackjack. Have you ever compared any of the IS binoculars? I was just curious how you think something like the Canon 10x42 IS-L would stack up against the traditional binoculars. Thanks!
yes I used 10x32 10x30 10x42 10x20 18x50 canon.

12x28 16x28 14x40 Fujinon

10x32 is sharpnest. even sharpner then CHD, UV and HT. ine of the sharpest 10x32.

10x42 L is bit dark in overall optics, I lined them par with CHD, EDG

even they have electronics inside, their optics is good compared to same price normal bino.

Really brief (literally) comparison of 5 Zeiss 8 power bino.

I displayed them by length

stated weight

TFL 32mm : 560g
CHD 32mm : 630g
SFL 40mm : 640g

Brightness

CHD < FL < SFL30 < SFL40 << HT42

HT deserve one more '<'

Real Field of View

HT42 < SFL 40 < FL < SFL 30 < CHD

CHD 8x32 doesn't have 8 degree fov as stated. it offer bigger FOV approx 8.2~8.3

Apparent Field of View

β€Š
HT42 < FL 32 < SFL 40 < SFL 30 < CHD

FL and HT has significantly small magnification then other.

Central sharpness

CHD < SFL30 < FL < HT < SFL40

Edge sharpness

HT < FL << CHD < SFL40 < SFL30

approx

73% < 78% < 83% < 85% < 87%

Color fidelity

CHD < FL < HT < SFL40 < SFL30

all of the bino's color biased to green side.

CHD and FL is bit yellower making the bino little mintish.

SFL 30 have bit better color fidelity (more red) compared to SFL 40

Chromatic abberation

CHD < HT < SFL30 < SFL40 < FL

Distortion

HT < FL < CHD < SFL30 < SFL40

+ I have made more closer comparison between

CHD 8x42 / SFL 8x40 / SF 8x42

just put a more briefer result

Brightness

CHD < SFL < SF

FOV

CHD < SFL < SF

Central sharpness

Edge sharpness

CHD < SFL < SF

Color fidelity

SF < CHD < SFL

Chromatic abberation

CHD < SFL < SF

Edge
(though SF shows highest CA at edge)
View attachment 1604402

Distortion

SF < SFL < CHD

Among the 7 binos SF 8x42 is the least sharpness and have strongest CA at the edge.
Don’t tell Dennis, he will be upset πŸ˜‰βœŒπŸΌ
but FOV, edge sharpness, color satuation, glare suppression and ergonomics is the best between the comparison

The bino I prefer best in this group is HT 8x42 followed by SFL 8x30

This surprises me. I have both the 10x32IS and the 10x42IS (was just out with them last week) and one of the things I find about the 10x42 is how bright they are, brighter than many 10’s that I have and tried. And I find the 32 a litter dark for a 10x32. But like you said everybody is a little different.
even they have electronics inside, their optics is good compared to same price normal bino.
