Brown little bird fell in my house (1 Viewer)

Hello,
I live in Morocco, North Africa.
A bird (pictures below) fell on the rooftop a few days ago and I fail to figure out what's wrong with it or how to help it. This is the information I gathered about it:
  • It seems unable to fly but able to jump short distances.
  • It doesn't bring its wings up to its body, usually leaving them in an extended position.
  • I tried giving it water in a small bottle cap and also tried bread but it did not show any interest in either.
  • I tried putting it in a quiet dark area in my cupboard and it jumped out.
  • I tried building a small house for it using some A4 paper but it jumped straight out.
  • It will often climb a wall, hold on in a vertical position for a little while, then fall off to the ground.
  • It wiggles its tail as it walks.
Please help me identify this bird and provide any advice on how to help it get back up to shape so it can fly off and continue its life normally.

Thanks !

I might be way wrong but I'm thinking a Swift of some kind.

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum (y)
We're glad you found us and please join in wherever you like. ;)

This is a swift, and they are aerial birds that find it incredibly difficult to take off from the ground. The only way to give it a chance is to launch it from a high spot; it will either then fly off or, sadly, if it is too weak, drop again to the ground. They feed exclusively on flying insects; you could try feeding it with insects if you have any available, but it needs releasing as soon as possible.

Hi Wassim and a warm welcome from me too. I agree with KC, it appears to be a young swift. These birds are unable to take flight from the ground, but can sometimes manage if you throw them up into the air. Alternatively from the top of a building.

However, this depends if he is mature enough to fly, and hasn't fallen from a nest. We have some general guidelines here for the care of injured and baby birds.

Quote Welsh Peregrine; .....you could try feeding it with insects if you have any available

Alternatively, tinned cat (not dog) food can make a good substitute.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
