But as one of these works is almost certainly in Dutch and the other presumably in German, Latin names in them are almost certainly unambiguous. "Pallas' names"--the only words claimed to be "names", but being regular Latin words appearing only once in a regular Latin sentence, without any stated or even suggested intent of naming, not identified or marked as names in any way, not at all clearly "used to denote" the form being described--are the only problematic ones among all of the above cases. This list was offered by Dickinson et al. 2014 as provinding "Evidence supporting the availability of avian names that have included the term Var. or equivalent", and it might probably be argued that it does this quite well. But this availability is in fact undisputed, and not a single other name in the list appears to suffer from the problems "Pallas' names" suffer from. Thus, the list provides no evidence supporting the availability of avian "names" suffering from this problem. Again, an intent of using a particular word as a name is [I]required[/I] by the Code.
