Splendid that you have all these lepidoptera in your mental ID data base. I know I'd be hard pressed...
Is there an app you'd recommend?
Separately, full marks for your partner, she clearly tolerated the experience of extreme lepidoptering remarkably well.

Who has the largest European butterfly list, you must be a contender?

Can you (anyone) send me a link to you Cyprus trip please?

I have no idea of who has seen the greatest number of species in Europe, maybe Matt Rowlings. I think someday to add up my WP tally rather than European (as I have done butterfly trips to the Middle East and plan to do same in Morocco), but I haven't even done that for birds :)

Cyprus report, but it was only a four-day mini trip in mid-summer:

Not really an app kind of person when it comes to fieldguides ... about physical books, still would say the Collins is just about the best for Europe. Serves me well at least. However, the websites of Matt Rowlings (eurobutterflies.com) and Guy Padfield (guypadfield.com) are excellent and often of critical importance for sorting out some of the more troubling species.

Even with these, there are some species that are very difficult and I am sure I do make some mistakes.

Can't remember if you have to register or not but this website EBG ~ Species has links to a number of id guides for European butterflies including the pdf of an excellent book on Iberian butterflies. I prefer a book, myself, but there's no doubt that if you're into birds, butterflies and dragonflies (and mammals as well for that matter) then they can add quite a bit to your weight allowance and can be uncomfortable to lug around in hot countries if you've got a camera system as well as binoculars, etc.

One of the best trip reports I have ever read. I have never even heard of most of these species and have recently started to wonder what sorts of butterfly species occur in nearby countries.
How big is the Spanish butterfly list?
