Cabo, Mexico Belding's Yellowthroat? (1 Viewer)

I had thought this was a Common Yellowthroat, but then noticed it doesn't have the white around the black mask that the Common Yellowthroat has. It seems that it could be a Belding's, which is endemic to the Cabo area. Before I call it a Beldings, I thought I would check to see if anyone had any thoughts on that. Thanks for your help!

I believe the color does indicate a nominate Belding's. Local Commons that winter in the area should have a white border to the face.

Agreed. According to Warblers of the Americas, the southern race of Belding's has the yellow border, which is the one you would have seen.

(This book also depicts a very similar-looking bird - a yellow-bordered race of Common Yellowthroat - but that one lives in a completely different part of Mexico, and is very local, so no chance of you running into it at Cabo).
