Cairns Area Bird Guides (1 Viewer)

My wife and I will be in Cairns for eight days at the end of November this year. As part of a longer holiday, we will have worked our way up from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. My wife isn’t a birder, so I tend to bird on my own first thing in the mornings and also when we are out walking together later on during the day.

I will be doing my own birding in Cairns but I also have in mind a full day out with a guide for a general spread of birds which I may struggle to see on my own. I have found three companies who offer guiding in the area, namely :-

  • Bell Bird Tours
  • Sicklebill Safaris
  • Great Northern Birdwatching Tours

I have a good idea as to which of the above three I may contact but was wondering if anyone knows of any other decent guides, in or around Cairns, that may be a bit better on price and who would be good for a full day out.

Thanks in advance.

Sicklebill have let us down significantly. We even made a special trip to Bird Fair this year just to see them and clarify matters but to no avail. Avoid!

Thanks for all your replies. I managed to get sorted with Blue Planet Ecology and have a day planned at various locations around Cairns, then time up on the Atherton Tablelands.

If you get the chance to head up a far as the Daintree Rainforest, the Daintree Boatman is a great general experience with some good birds likely - did this with my (solidly non birding) family and they loved it. It's doable in a day from Cairns (albeit a long day)
