Red-footed Falcon, Ouse Fen RSPB

Hi All,

I am able to go for the R-f Falcon first thing tomorrow and canne wait :t:

Just wondering if anyone who's been down can confirm the location. Looking at birdguides I think it should be by the orange arrow in the attached. Any tips / further directions gratefully received ;)

With thanks in advance.

Jonny

Yes, you are in the right area. Anywhere between the arrow and Bare Hill, and also ranging to the north of the arrow (upto Brownshill Staunch)

Good luck

Whereabouts on Jonny's map do you view from? Do you view from the orange arrow or is that whereabouts roughly the bird has been seen?

Also which road is Fen End please? Messages on BirdGuides advise to park at the end of Fen End near the cattle grids...

View from the track along either west side (north of arrow), or the track along the east side of pits (the one next to Bare Hill/"4" on the map). The bird ranges over much of this area. There are now more pits at this site than the OS map shows (phase 1 is shown on that map, phase 2 is to the north of there, phase 3 to the north of that).

Fen End and Overcote Roads are both signed in Over village on main road around north side of village - east of Church (they are the two yellow roads on that map which go off north from the village).

Stick to footpaths in this area as some areas are part of a working quarry still.

Almost certain I had a Laplnd Bunting fly South over Wisbech at 2:30pm today. I heard it call once and looked up to see a disappearing speck...too distant to be 100% unfortunately.

Looking at the date of the last posting doesn't look as if much is happening around the county! Don't believe that can be true. Anybody out there?

Hi there,
planning on popping in at Grafham Water tomorrow; can anyone give me directions for the White-winged Black Tern please? I have not visited before. I will be travelling due west on the A14 past Huntingdon, if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance,
Jim.

From A14 come down A1 to Buckden, then head west to Perry. Go through village, and just before you leave village, there is a car park (Mander car park) on the right. Park here (note; it's pay & display), then view the harbour in-front of restuarant/fishing lodge. The bird ranges from here anywhere to the east (especially in-front of sailing club). It has also been seen from the south end of dam too.

Many thanks Mark. Should keep the missus sweet; she is a Tern fan!
Cheers,
Jim.
