Grafham water 31 0ct ; Three Great Northern Divers this morning. The juv off the dam plus 2 non-aged birds off distantly off sailing club. Now totals at least 5 this month

- Late afternoon update; just one GND close in to the dam presumably still the juv but viewed distantly from Plummer. No sign of the two new birds at either end of the reservoir by dusk so last seen at @11;00 before the torrential rain drowned me. Unless anyone else saw them?

Presumed escape Hooded Merganser at Godmanchester reported on RBA?? : maybe a dangerous assumption this time of year??? Lots of wildfowl moving about currently and a lot of vagrants from USA very recently.

Grafham Water 1 Nov, finally some reasonable lighting to try for some close ups of the juv Great Northern Diver. Some more pleasing shots https://www.flickr.com/photos/avesandmore/50555447633/in/album-72157712463187667/
A single juv GND in the gull roost tonight at dusk in the middle of the reservoir.

A correction is needed to the identification of the Caspian Gull on 25 Oct in Valley Creek (see above for link), much better views this afternoon show that it is the returning hybrid Caspian x Herring Gull (Yellow X90A) photographed several times over the last 12 months.

A good educational bird and certainly means every Caspian needs a second look.

(I could only see the hybrid Tufted/Scaup type drake from Valley Creek hide this afternoon https://www.flickr.com/photos/avesandmore/50556104901/in/album-72157712463187667/ )

Possibly the last posting from Grafham this year with the impending Lock Down this week.........

Grafham Water 7 Nov; 'not locked down' in fact quite the opposite! Four Great White Egrets off lagoons early morning. Three Great Northern Divers seen at the same time from the dam, but total appears to be four based on joint observations. Drake Imm Scaup re-located off Church Hill late morning. https://www.flickr.com/photos/avesandmore/50577271782/in/album-72157712463187667/
Only one GND seen late pm off Fishing Lodge plus Cetti's Warbler singing and several Water Rails calling in the lagoons at dusk.

Grafham Water 8 Nov; single juvenile Great Northern Diver off the dam this morning plus the drake Scaup.
Bearded Tits, at least two in the lagoons at dusk plus two Cetti's Warblers. Woodcock over.

Grafham Water 14 Nov; 3 Great Northern Divers distantly off the dam this morning close together at one point. Seemed to be off Sailing Club but way off shore.
Adult Mediterranean Gull off Mander carpark at midday.
Common Sandpiper on the dam.

Grafham Water 15 Nov; single Great Northern Diver out in the middle, mid afternoon. No GND’s
seen at dusk in the gull roost.
Drake hybrid Tufted/Scaup type by the fishing lodge at dusk; now looking much cleaner and more confusable!

Grafham Water 21 Nov; FOUR Great Northern Divers in a raft off the sailing club mid morning, before 3 of then had a fly around. Maybe some pictures later if I can work out how to add the links!
Great White Egret still seen in various locations. Three Goosanders.
A record shot of the 4 divers all together just before they all separated.

So why can’t I save this page to my iphone home screen like before?
May have to find a new platform if I can’t as it seems to revert back to BF homepage that is far too awkward ?

Looks like this thread needs to be re-started to enable it to work properly in the new format. I will therefore attempt to start a new thread In the 'Cambridgeshire' folder. This new thread will be called Grafham Water. I'll see how it goes, it looks like any links to my Flickr photos will show the actual image in the message looking at the edited message above. All the previous links should remain live.

Warning! This thread is more than 3 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
