Brief encounter on the Rumps

Hi Col:king:, Nice to see you this morning, sorry I didn't have anything to convey.

The conditions should have been ideal. A good W - WNW wind, clear. But birds? Nop.
One Bonxie and a Manx!!!! Mind you the Bonxie did put the Kittiwakes up. As I arrived, there were lots of Gannets circling close inshore, but as they moved out nothing replaced them. Gannets, Auks and Kittiwakes that the best the Rumps could provide. Still we did have a good chat on the way back.

Love the pictures Col:king:, wish I could get photos that good.

See you soon, roll on Lesvos.

Yes the conditions were ideal yesterday Mike but no birds, I could not even find a single Manx or Bonxie on my later one hour watch, just 3 Kittiwake, 8 Gannet, 30+ Auk, lots of Great Black-backed Gulls, one Harbour Porpoise and a Grey Seal. But just think 2 presumed Fea's Petrel were seen further down the north coast that day and a presumed Macaronesian Shearwater passed the Rumps on the 1st.

I like the terned presumed

So what is 'presumed'. I like that, good get out term. The sea was very choppy that day and 'small stuff' (auks) were disappearing and then reappearing everywhere. Must admit had no sign what so ever of Petrels.
So Camelbirder has gone quiet, don't tell me he's been grounded. Can't believe that if he has been out he hasn't seen something of note. Perhaps he is saving his energy up for Turkey. 8-P

So what is 'presumed'.

Sorry Mike, my choice of words, 'presumed' is usually used when a Fea's Petrel is claimed, as they are very similar to Zino's or Soft-plumaged Petrels, it might be presumptuous of me but presumably Fea's is the most likely in British waters. With my own claim of Macaronesian Shearwater the identification of this group (Little/Audubon's) is very difficult and I would regard the record as 'presumed' untill it is proven.

Walmsley Sanctuary this morning, birds included 4 Tufted Duck, 1 Gadwall, 5 Wigeon, 30+ Teal, 12 Common Snipe, 12 Curlew, 6 Barn Swallow, a Sparrow Hawk and 1 Grey Plover.

Ringing details, Ringed as pullus 20 06 2008 on the Danish island of Sprogo, Korsor, DKO6 55,20N-010.58E Metal ring on right leg 'Copenhagen AA....8001' number of recoveries one, at Walmsley.
Sprogo is a small protected Danish island with no permanent human population today, which is located in the Great Belt, the strait that separates the main islands of Funen and Zealand. (From 1923-1959 the island was used for the containment of women deemed pathologically promiscuous, the main concern being unwanted pregnancies. At the time it was considered a very humane approach, given the fact that they had previously been locked up) I suppose, given the fact that its only a small island I assume it probably would not be big enough today!

Ahhh the interpretation of intonation. I didn't mean "So!!!! What is presumed?" I was saying to myself "So what is presumed????", musing to myself, thinking hmmm, nicely phrased. You should know me by now. I am not one those who take the opposite stance to everything until proved otherwise. And yes I do remember you mentioning it come to think of it.
Significant increase in the number of BHGs feeding on the school playing fields. Searched for Meds none present.

Yes Mike I know full well you are not a 'jump on the first popular and safe band-wagon' sort of bloke, and I do respect you for that.

If you are human, you will make mistakes.
And if you can convince yourself you don't.
You assist in changing history into mythology. Qingcol

I walked all morning on the Camel and turned up one Whinchat, at Stepper Point. But the "Traill's Flycatcher at Nanjizal more than made up for that in the afternoon. On the way down the track to Nanjizal we stopped to watch a Whinchat, a group of people walking back from the Flycatcher shouted at us " no no thats not the bird its down there mate ha ha" when we replied, we are watching a Whinchat, we were met with very blank and bemused expressions.
