The only notable additions watching Dinham Flats from The Camel Trail this morning included 3 Common Sandpiper, 1 Ruff, 1 summer plumage Knot, 2 broods of Shelduck, 2 Sandwich Tern, at least 2 juv Black-headed Gull and 9 Mediterranean Gull (5 adult, 2 1st winter moulting to 2nd winter, 2 2nd winter) 2 Common Redshank and 1 Common Sandpiper at Old Town Bridge.

The only notable additions watching Dinham Flats from The Camel Trail this morning included 3 Common Sandpiper, 1 Ruff, 1 summer plumage Knot, 2 broods of Shelduck, 2 Sandwich Tern, at least 2 juv Black-headed Gull and 9 Mediterranean Gull (5 adult, 2 1st winter moulting to 2nd winter, 2 2nd winter) 2 Common Redshank and 1 Common Sandpiper at Old Town Bridge.
No sign of any Gadwall this morning at Amble Marshes, birds included 4 Eurasian Teal, 2 Green Sandpiper, 1 Lapwing, juv Black-headed Gull and a Hobby (probable first summer) a striking individual showing an untypical, clearly defined broad white band across the forehead (photo)hawking Dragonflies.
Dinham Flats this morning, birds included 5 Common Sandpiper, 7 Greenshank, 9 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Bar-tailed Godwit, 2 Whimbrel, 2 Common Redshank, 2 Stock Pigeon, 6 juv Black-headed Gull with 250+ Black-headed Gull flock, 2 Mediterranean Gull (adult and 2nd winter) 2 Skylark and unusually in summer 4 Rock Pipit.

Amble Marshes this morning, surprisingly the water level has fallen slightly, birds included 1 summer plumage Black-tailed Godwit (colour ringed left leg yellow over white with black lettering, right leg light green over yellow) 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Dunlin, 1 Lapwing, 2 Northern Shoveler (photo) 1 Eurasian Teal, 1 female Gadwall, 23 Black-headed Gull including 4 juv, 1 adult Med Gull, 25 Common Swift, 29 Sand Martin, 18 House Martin and 32 Barn Swallow.

It's fallen because I opened the sluice on Wednesday evening before the Thursday deluge. It should end up about 2 inches lower if it stops raining, with the aim of showing some more mud as birds start to pass through.

It certainly looked good for Waders yesterday, if the water level stabilizes like that and it stops raining it should be just right.
A Hobby at Treraven Meadow this afternoon, a probable 1st summer showing only buff trousers and unlike the Hobby last reported from Amble Marshes a regular head pattern.

30+ mediterranean gulls on the estuary yesterday evening on the high tide - video of some of them here. Also 7 redshank, 5 black tailed godwit, 2 whimbrel, curlew, grey heron, little egret, shelduck (total of 15 young), buzzard, cormorant, 1 sandwich tern, 2 gannets.
A sparrowhawk has left signs in the front garden at Guineaport that it has been paying regular visits to feed on the local sparrows which seem to have had a good breeding season. I managed to get this video of a male sparrowhawk which shows an injury/deformity with its right eye which doesn`t seem to stop it hunting successfully. Colin, am I right in thinking you photographed a similar bird some time ago? Cheers, Will.

Waders liking the adjusted water level at Amble Marshes this afternoon; birds included 28 Black-tailed Godwit (including colour ringed individual from a few days ago) 7 Greenshank (including the Ythan Estuary colour ringed returning bird) 1 Lapwing, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Northern Shoveler, 1 female Gadwall and 7 Eurasian Teal.
Amble Marshes this evening, I was relieved to see the female Gadwall and 6 of her brood this evening, all 6 juveniles able to fly perfectly well around and out of the reserve. Other birds included 12 Greenshank (including the colour ringed Ythan Estuary bird) 1 colour ringed Black-tailed Godwit, 4 Green Sandpiper, 2 Northern Shoveler, 4 Eurasian Teal, 16 Common Swift including at least one juv and a bleached out Chiffchaff (photo) has been around the Tower Hide occasionally for about a week, very unusual call can be extremely vocal in short bursts, but always silent when you have a recorder to hand.

Amble Marshes this morning, bird action, very quiet, birds included 1 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 12 Greenshank, 2 Northern Shoveler, 10 Common Swift, 7 Little Egret, 3 Grey Heron, 10 Little Grebe, 3 Stock Pigeon and 12+ Sedge Warbler.
