Hello

Apologies but I've only been learning about birds for a couple of months now so I'm a complete newbie to this. Anyway, I've come across a bird I've not seen before this morning. Can anyone share their expertise and tell me what it is please? It was spotted on a mountain in north Wales.

Whinchat, a summer visitor. Lovely species. Related to the commoner Stonechat. The large white eyebrow is diagnostic.

Ah, that's great. I'm getting pretty familiar with my Stonechats now so I knew it wasn't one of them. Your answer explains why I didn't recognise it. It's the first one I've spotted and photographed up to now. Many thanks for your help with this.

Congratulations Spadge. Cherish him... they're getting quite rare (round me anyway).

I've not seen one for several years now.

Thank you all for your comments. I had no idea that they were so uncommon to see. I've learnt a little more about bird ID from this forum once again. Thanks again.
