Hello, I just joined the forum today and am brand new to bird watching, that is, brand new to researching and discovering and recording, so could anyone help me identify this fellow seen on west coast of Florida? Sandpiper type coloring but with a "gull like" beak with a crest. I've gone through two books and the Audubon Society online listing and can't seem to find him. The photo still is a screencap from some video; the bird was cawing and agitated at the time of the photo. Thank you so much.

Yes, a Black-crowned Night-heron and a great closeup image.

Wow, that was fast, great job; yes I see some info now detailing the juvenile is very different, brown and white; and I did see an adult Black Crowned Night Heron in the vincinity too, so it makes sense--thank you so much, I'm so impressed.

Hi seak and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
