I don't know a single Danish birder who would not tick based on sound, and on this forum, UK birders are mostly the opposite. I for one have seen quail, but I would not have been able to tell that they were not escaped Japanese quail based on what I saw. Easy by ear, though! Same goes for the whif-whaf warblers, I have very few that I could tell by sight, plenty by sound. I have never seen river warbler or savi warbler, but they are on my list based on sound. Trashing a reed-bed in hope of seeing the warbler that is easy to register by ear would be deeply unethical. Niels</blockquote>
