[QUOTE="username, post: 1564246, member: 70211"] There is often a load of hypocritical hogwash that 'goes on' about flushing/tape luring birds. Of course..you wont 'hear' from many serious birder types/well respected tour leaders..etc..on this forum coz they will not want to admit 'in public' what sometimes takes place. Anyone who has been in the 'birding business' for a long time knows exactly what goes on tho. With specific reference to quail...i have only seen this species in uk on a couple of occasions...and not thru flushing..believe it or not! Have i tried to flush quail in the past?...yes....but i aint gone hell for leather thru crops or that sort o thing on a potential breeding ground. I suspect that many folk 'tut-tut' about certain practices in uk..then happily go abroad and expect a tour leader to show 'em the bird by wotever means necessary. In order to actually see your 'target'....one must adopt certain strategies....wherever you are in the world. In rainforest i prefer to 'work' on my own...[less disturbance...then you can get 'in the zone']...use a combination of imitating calls...[don't use tapes most of time]...and just basically be extremely patient...stealth...common frickin sense...etc. Birding 'is' hunting....to many...it is an 'art'. ps...i do appreciate tho...[these days]..that there's so many birders about that pressures to see a bird can get 'out of order'...[that's why i spend a lot o time local patching]...tho i do...if the occasion arises...join the circus that is a big twitch...i love to watch the 'clowns'....
