Even if someone were to say I could tick a bird as I had heard it that would have no impact on my desire to see that bird, particularly if it was a lifer. There are a lot of species that can only be safely identified by voice, but even for these I would want to see them. I was in PNG last year and it took a couple of hours waiting for a Blue Bird-of-Paradise to appear, we had been hearing it for quite a while and if it was just about getting the tick we could have moved on and used those two hours to add a few more ticks to the list, but I think if that had been suggested it would have caused a riot.</blockquote>
