Finally got a contrail.

Local time about 2:50pm today. Going southwest. More south than west I think.

Same photo. Two cropped to about 1600x1200 and the other resized to 1600x1200.

Maximum optical zoom and the 2X teleconverter on.

birds in flight

I find that sports mode works best for this. I always have camera on continuous focus & normally limit auto iso to 400 (which I believe the camera goes to when put in sport mode).Otherwise, thats it. A few examples below.

Thanks Crazyfingers!! Great catch - thank you for your patience!!

EL AL 7, Tel Aviv to JFK, B777-200, 38,000 feet, reg 4X-ECB

The SX 50 does really well under these extreme conditions. I have made a decision to order mine at the end of this week - as it really does seem to be, THE camera to have around.

Been a pleasure conversing with you.

Cheers

Now that i have two SX50s, one almost for 2 years, and one brand new, i wonder if Canon has made tweaks. I have never checked on the old one if there was ever a firmware update. Once I have time i will check and see if there are differences.

I too have been waiting for half decent reviews for the SX60
But I am now thinking of getting another SX50 £299 less 12% discount.
But am wondering how long Canon will be servicing the Sx50 for,any idea's?

No idea. But I did check and the new one has firmware version 1.0. Which isn't bad. I have seen no glitches and so they got it right the first time.

I have some automobile GPS units that they have fixed bugs in firmware up to 10 times before some advertised features actually worked!

They're great flight shots, I'll have to try your settings, mine have been nowhere near as good.

Don't seem to be able to get the same sharpness as some users, but having said that the camera decided to use iso800.

A confiding LT Duck

A Long-tailed Duck has been close in to a local beach for the last few days. It has been fun trying to photograph it although conditions have been unfavourable(gloomy and choppy sea).Normally a species you don't get within 50 yrds of, this one has been fishing 5yrds off the end of the various groynes!!

1st pic is cropped but to show how close the bird is the 2nd is uncropped with the 2x converter on at full zoom.

Nice shots PP. LTD's are one of my favourite species. Hoping to get some decent views when we stay in Burghead next March.

This little lady was on a boating lake in Barry of all places earlier in the year:

Refilled the feeders earlier. Wasn't really expecting this male Sprawk to be one of the first arrivals. The beauty of these little Superzooms is they are easy to keep to hand and grab a couple of shots.
