Very nice pair of 1980s, maybe early 90s, Carl Zeiss Jenoptem 8x30 wide angle binoculars I frequently use for birding. These were made by Zeiss in the cold war era German Democratic Republic. Complete with case, neck strap and literature. Optics are fantastic and they are lightweight. I prefer lightweight porro prism binoculars for birding.

Very nice, I got a pair, just after the Berlin Wall came down. I have absolutely no idea what happened to them. I do have a number of other Porros which are my prefered option for day to day use, but I am still annoyed that I cannot find these!

I got one too, in mint condition:
Great bino, despite the modest edge sharpness.
They serve their purpose well. For me, the light weight is a big plus. I have a Deltrintem model dating from 1928 that I absolutely love and enjoy using, and the image quality is better than the coated Jenoptem, but not as bright, at least to my eyes. I would think that optical performance would be dependent on the user too. I use them both regularly.

I remember this model. Around 1990 I had hard to decide between this model and Nikon CF 7x20.
I chose the Nikon because of the compactness.
But later I bought Jenoptem 7x50.

Nice binoculars. I wanted them back in the early 80's for my first binoculars but budget meant I settled for the cheaper Komz 8x30's (perfectly adequate, but not as good). I scratched the itch a few years back and bought an 80's pair of the Deltrintem (basically identical to the Jenoptem) and still enjoy using them from time to time. The classic 8x30 Porros are such a good size for day to day use and a joy to handle.
