I finally had a chance to do a comparison between the 8x30 Leupold Yosemites and the 8x32 Ultima DX today. I have summarized some general comments above in my comparison with the 6x30 Yosemite but I can be more specific now that I have the 8x30 configuration for comparison. I am going to be fairly brief in my comparison but if anyone wants further clarification on any key points then please let me know. - The major difference optically between these two glasses seems to be the level of contrast. The Ultima DX exhibits a higher level of contrast than the Leupold Yosemite. - Brightness is about equal to my eyes but it is a bit difficult to tell because the increased field of view of the DX makes the DX seem just a shade brigher. I am going to give both a low-light comparison later today. - Color representation seems fairly neutral on both models with colors being, again, a shade deeper on the DX. - Apparent sharpness seems to favor the DX as we and I would probably rate this as the second most noticeable feature when comparing the two directly. It is possible that the increased contrast creates more of a "snap" to the image thus giving the impression of a higher level of resolution. Still the entire image seems just a little bit crisper. Comparing the two I would say that, in general, they are more alike optically then not with the above exceptions. If you were to take the Yosemites 390 foot field of view and add another 40 feet to it (with an accompanying level of distortion to match the increased field of view) then you would end up with an image very similar to that of the Ultima DX. Probably the most significant difference in terms of handling would be in reference to the weight. The Yosemites are very lightweight and extremely comfortable to tote around. The DXs are noticeably heavier but the increased weight makes it much easier to get more details out of the image initially in handheld conditions.
