It is with pleasure I confer upon this species the name of my friend, Dr. St. Felix Colardeau, who has shown much intelligent interest in procuring the birds of Gaudeloupe.

The Key to Scientific Names
Dr Saint-Félix Colardeau (fl. 1890) French coffee-planation owner on Guadeloupe, US vice-consul, naturalist, collector (syn. Chaetura martinica).

His dissertation here. According here p. 7 (footnote):
« St. Felix Colardeau received his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from Yale in 1858. His Bachelor of Arts degree was awarded from the University of France in 1848. Colardeau died in 1898. » Archives de Yale. Et « according to our records Dr. S.F. Colardeau was Mayor of Oakland in May 1862. He is the first Mayor we actually have record of, probably because Oakland was incorporated in 1862, thus, he was probably the first ! » Information obtenue par Stephen Colardeau. Oakland Mayors, Garrett County, Maryland

From here
Dr. St. Felix Colardeau, of Basse-terre, sent a number of speci- mens and notes ...

In here we can read:
St. Felix Colardeau was a retired physician, graduate of Yale University, who lived with his son, Charles, who also collected birds,...

No idea if he really died 1898 and where (but why not) and when and where he was born. Probably according here François André Saint Félix COLARDEAU. Some more here p. 10 of 24. May he is born 15/07/1829 Pointe à Pitre? Here p.38 and 39 (last entry).

Family histories seem to have been confused father and sons. A St. Felix Colardeau was still teaching in Connecticut as late as 1916. But this must be a son as our guy definitely died in 1898.

Got to the bottom of the confusion: The school list for the Episcopal Academy of Connecticut (published in 1916) lists St-Felix as an instructor in French in 1856. He was long dead.

St Felix married a Cuban American woman (Georgina Hélène Bartlett) in New Haven in 1856 and remained in the US practicing as a doctor until after his fathers death in 1865 when he returned to Guadaloupe to take over the family businesses.
