Does anyone have, or know anyone who has, photographs or descriptions of the Red Rocks "Kentish" plover from the 70s?
i'll have a look when i get home jane, but i don't think i made any notes on this cos it was just a "kentish"... i take it you're trying to see if it can be turned into a snowy? certainly be interesting to view any photos. good luck...

County Bird Recorder Cheshire and Wirral
Can I request that any observers who are claiming Caspian Gulls, refer to the paper in BB Dec 2011 by Gibbins et al, (notably the list of plumage and other trait features to score and the summary on page 740) and present relevant trait scores in any description where possible, and concentrate their photographs as follows: on adult gulls, on P10 to define the balance of black and white and the colour of the pale tongue on this feather. Any adult Gull showing more black than white on this feather, irrespective of ALL other adult features should not be identified as a 'pure' Caspian Gull. 1st winter birds vary enormously compared to hybrids or Herring Gull with few definitive stable traits and bill shape (length:depth ratios) greater covert pattern, scapular pattern and moult and primary projection and dark underwings must all be seen and scored since there is considered little or no overlap once the scores are totaled up between Hybrids and pure Caspian's.
The problem posed by hybrids unfortunately suggests that a conservative approach to field identification is gpoing to have to be adopted for this species moving forward opposite the County database.

Now I know why I hate Gulls!
regards
Hugh
