Thanks.
I think they pass the word around (twitter perhaps) and they know when I am searching.......last year I lost count of the times I went to where they definitely were-only to find they had gone. Will try Milner Street today.
Never seen one "in the flesh" as yet.

Judging by the numbers in Scotland - 400+ in Glasgow, 600 in Ullapool - they are still pouring into the country.

if they're not there when you arrive wait a bit. or alternatively drive up and down till you see someone staring up a tree with a camera

6 waxwings + 1 fieldfare in the trees at jctn of rowcliffe ave/lache lane in Chester this pm. Still plenty of berries in the rowen so they should come back with a bit of luck.

Re' Warrington Waxwings.

Thanks again for the 'heads-up' on the Warrington Waxwings. I have attached some photos.......not the best in the world but OK.
One of the things I like about BF is the willingness of members to offer help/assistance to others (when possible or practical).

Good to see Captaincarot at Martin Mere just now. Saw 50+ Waxwings whilst driving into Liverpool entrance to Wallasey Tunnel. Still 50 on Birkenhead side of birkenhead tunnel.

Re Captaincarot's photos of Hoylake shore from last Saturday. I reckon closer to 25k birds than 30k which you can see in the photos, mostly Knot. But there appears to be more birds off to the right not shown.

i'm guessing this is the same place as last winter? on the corner of leeds st & scottie road? i've been looking out every morning recently from the bus & noticed rather a plentiful supply of berries which seemed intact...

No, they were to the north of the Wallasey tunnel entrance, flew across the road and landed on trees by the Shell Garage. Couldn't see any berries there so they might well find their way further along towards the city centre.
But wasn't it two winters ago they were there?? (2010/11 not 2011/12)

They were here (but a bit closer to the A59)

This afternoon there was an Egyptian Goose tantalisingly close to the Cheshire border, just across the Bollin at Dunham Massey in Gtr Manchester. I have a friend who needs it for a Cheshire tick.

Question for Cheshire Birder : would you count the bird as a Cheshire tick if viewed from Cheshire – while the bird was in the air over Greater Manchester ‘ airspace ‘ and not on the ground ? Just curious

I have the same problem with the B.W. Prat.-although viewed from Cheshire it was actually in Flints. and even when it flew off remained on the Welsh side. To tick or not is the question-any other opinions out there.
cheers

No sign of the Egyptian Goose this morning at Dunham Massey but it's place appeared to have been mysteriously taken by a Barnacle Goose amongst the Canada's.

Also several large skein of Pink Feet's heading North West this morning.

What do you do with seabirds?

In terms of British listing you can count sea birds a long way out seen from a boat ,as I'm sure you know ,Jane ;) Can't remember the exact distance but it varies anyway - not the same in the English Channel as way past the Scillies for example. In terms of a county tick ,I'd tick anything over the water seen from the Wirral. So, if I saw a stormie from New Brighton flying close to the wall at Seaforth,I reckon I'd still put it on my Cheshire list .Otherwise ,you get into "was it over half-way across the Mersey" type of arguments.
Going back to the Egyptian goose - can't be ticked -it's in Greater Manchester.

So what if an egyptian goose flew up the middle of the Dee.... could you only count it as Cheshire once it was out in the open sea?
