Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast (1 Viewer)

Red-tailed Hawk again over Hoylake & W.Kirby and a really striking Hooded Crow x Carrion Crow. Took a few looks to make sure it wasn't a real one.

A red kite was over Leasowe this morning at 9.30 also a single Ruff was seen with the Turnstones , Hundreds of Meadow Pippits were on the move with good numbers of Skylark , Also 5 wheatears were in the paddocks and 6 Chiffchaff 2 White Wagtail were seen , cheers col
Yesterday - American Wigeon at Denhall Quay; Water Pipit at Pickmere; Hooded Crow at Frodsham; Ospreys at Rivacre Valley and Widnes; Eider, 6+ Little Gulls, 3 Sandwich Terns and 200 Meadow Pipits at Leasowe; Black-necked Grebe at Houghton Green Flash; Willow Warbler, Ring Ouzel, 295 Meadow Pipits, 7 Scaup, 7 Eider and Razorbill at Red Rocks; Red-crested Pochard at Lyme Park; Jack Snipe and Yellow-legged Gull at Budworth Mere; 3 Sandwich Terns and 2 White Wagtails at Hilbre; 6 Wheatears at Burton; Scaup and Willow Tit at Astbury SQ;

Today - American Wigeon, 16 Waxwings and Rock Pipit at Denhall Quay; Great White Egrets at Frodsham and Hale; Red Kite over Leasowe and Thurstaston; 2 Black-necked Grebes at Woolston Eyes; Red-crested Pochard at Lyme Park; Ring Ousel, 3 Little Gulls, Sandwich Tern, c560 Wood Pigeons, 2 Bramblings, Bullfinch (barely annual here) and 2 Jack Snipe at Red Rocks; 12 Little Gulls, Sandwich Tern and Gannet at New Brighton; 10 Little Gulls, 30 Goldcrests, 500+ Meadow Pipits, Merlin, 7 Purple Sandpipers, 3 Gannets and 6 Sandwich Terns at Hilbre; Hen Harrier, Whimbrel and Jack Snipe at Gowy Meadows; Whimbrel at Moreton; 3 Avocets at Frodsham; 3 Red-throated Divers and Sandwich Tern at Leasowe;

c1000 Meadow Pipits coming in off the sea on the North Wirral shore by midday plus a mini-influx of Chiffchaffs and Goldcrests;

Its weird how the Pipits were missing RR today (just 80 in 3.5 hours) whereas there were 300 yesterday in a day of less movement generally

Some of you will no doubt have seen the reports on the local TV news about a fire at Parkgate. It started at Neston and spread north to Parkgate. BTW. That ****** Red-tailed Hawk was sitting on the concrete posts at the tip end of Gilroy half an hour ago.

Yesterday - Glaucous Gull, Rock Pipit and 2 Swallows at Chelford SQ's; Red Kite at Ashley; 3 Black-necked Grebes and 8 Chiffchaffs at Woolston Eyes; single Ring Ouzels at Leasowe and Red Rocks; 2 Avocets and 2 Green Sandpipers at Frodsham; Yellow-legged Gull, 9 Sand Martins and 2 House Martins at Marbury CP; 2 Swallows, 2 House Martins and c30 Sand Martins at Pickmere;

Today - 21 Waxwings at Neston; 3+ Black-necked Grebes, 2 Bramblings and Mediterranean Gull at Woolston Eyes; 30 Little Gulls, 500+ Meadow Pipits, 4 White Wagtails and 3 Sandwich Terns at Hilbre; 2 Avocets at Neumann's Flash plus Little Egret on Ashton's Flash; 2 Avocets and Marsh Harrier at Frodsham;

General influx of Swallows today with several sites across the county reporting birds.

Just having my breakfast cuppa in the back garden (Chester) and heard my first chiffchaff of the year! Calling from the trees to my right!
