Poor Judge of Pasta.
Hi: Was there last Thursday 12 June - only saw 2 Avocets in middle scrape from Reception building ........... Little Owl showing though ............ :t:

The Avocets should still be around BMW as they had young when I last visited. The other option is Frodsham, by the Weaver Bend, but thats a bit of a walk to get to.

Thanks chaps

Successful trip on Saturday. The boys were delighted to see real live Avocets, with Oystercatcher, Shelduck, Little Grebe & Grey Heron also all new birds for them. Real stars were Goldfinches on the feeders though; Archie was transfixed for a good 5 minutes. Amazing to see how the site has changed since I visited last, we'll definitely visit again.

Cheers

Probably only anecdotal but there seems to be less hirundines and swifts around mid-Cheshire than recent years. Passing a large herd of cattle by Delamere Forest this morning I was struck by the very few martins flying above them. Thinking back the Sand Martin banks at Northwich Woodlands have not been used and very few swifts and martins are hunting. Further there seems to be less insects this year, could this be the reason so few birds appear to have remained to breed?

Nice day at BMW today, as well as the usual suspects redshanks, common sandpipers, more than 60 little egrets on the pool by marsh covert hide, singing sedge warblers, summer plumage blackwits + Dunlin from imf hide. Back at reception pool black swan put in a nice appearance.
