Thinking of doing a wirral trip tomorrow. How easy is it to spot these surf scoters - any good vantage point or can they be seen with bins? Thinking of visiting leasowe lighthouse area, red rocks and BMW.

you need a scope to have any real chance with the surfies. Early morning at high tide before the haze gets up is your best bet - off the lifeboat station.

Annoyingly went to Marbury Country Park yesterday meaning I missed out on the Black Winged Stilts that were showing today. Saw the Common Scotor which was showing well, there were also 3 Black Necked Grebes, Goosander and lots of GC Grebes and Tufties. Plenty of migrants about with Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Swallow and Sand Martin everywhere.

Does anyone have any more info on the stilts at Ashtons flash? Are they still around?
Can't believe it was 7 years since the last pair, time flies!

Needed to hurry back sooner than planned today from Worlds End for a brief look at the Wood Sandpiper on no.3 bed at Woolston Eyes.

It was looking slightly nervous amongst the many Black-headed Gulls on the scrape in front of the John Morgan hide when we arrived, then 15 minutes later a Sparrowhawk sent the gulls up and the WS with them. The sandpiper flew around in circles for a few minutes before being lost to view.
