Brief views this morning when it finally broke cover. Manage to get the scope on it for a half a minute anyway. It had been calling on and off for an hour at the left end of the field in the longer grass before moving to the rear of the field and disappearing once again.

Corncrake showed well from the road this evening and was in pursuit of a Grey Partridge for much of the time - fascinating to watch the behaviour between the two birds. Also got good views of both legs and no sign of ringing - which rules out an introduced bird from the south I believe?

Excellent day at BMW today. Apart from the wood sandpiper, 2 singing sedge warblers, nesting reed buntings, plenty of whitethroat, but my highlight was the excellent display from the reed warblers. They were popping up and showing really well for a change, best bit was finding 2 newly fledged chicks squashed together on a reed getting fed by the parents.

Belated news of a Rose-coloured Starling reported in a Pensby Garden in early May for one day only!

Mandarins seem to be doing well with breeding recorded at two new sites and Cetti's Warblers bred at a new site.
