Oh Lordy! Another birdy memory? :'D Yep! The *first* baby bird I had to hand raise was given to me by a neighbour. The chick was literally hatching from the egg and I got the egg with baby chicky emerging. A wind gust had blown a nest down and all that survived was this ~almost~ new born babe. I had a tiny box that was from a jewelry store and it had the nice soft cottony stuff on the bottom. The baby fit perfectly inside this new square white nest and I placed it on a heating pad set on loooow. Every 15 minutes I'd feed the baby some warm baby cereal ... around the clock. I think I slept for a whole hour straight the first night and was panicked the baby had starved. He didn't. Amazingly the baby bird continued to grow and change. Feathers grew. Eyes opened. Ooooo! We had a baby Robin! I'd take the chick outside when the weather was nice and he'd wander a bit in the grass but always stayed close to me. As he learned to fly ... He'd be in a tree and I'd walk away and he'd quickly fly to me and land on my head or shoulder. That was soooooooo nice to be outside and suddenly have a Robin appear and demand to be fed. With time he'd spend more and more time outside but he'd be called to come inside for the night. One day he refused to come when called and he stayed outside overnight. He was waiting for me in the morning but didn't want to be fed any more. My chick had grown up! He'd be in the garden all summer but in the Fall he must have joined his friends and left for the winter. I remember all that but ... I cannot remember his name! It was probably something like Chicky but I just don't know. Oh oh. I think my brain is empty now. It's sooo nice to read the memories of other forum members. :t:
