I think of this effect as similar to wearing sunglasses, but milder. It's particularly pleasant when the greatest light loss occurs toward the blue end of the spectrum where the eye doesn't focus well. That's usually the case with silvered prisms and many antireflection coatings. Now, for me no binocular is too bright in daylight. I want the maximum realism and vividness even if it's painful on a bright day. FWIW, I always found my 8.5x42 EL to be a curious under achiever in low light, barely brighter than a Nikon 8x32 SE and much dimmer than a Zeiss 8x42 FL.Henry</blockquote>
