Just checked the Harper Collins web site and they now have a publication date of 03.09.09.

Will have to wait a bit longer to use my book tokens!

The hardback version is now available to order on Amazon. Previously it was saying it hadn't been published yet. Anybody got it yet? If so, how does it compare with the first edition?

So the hard back version comes out in September? Perfect for a birthday present for me then! Better start dropping less-than-subtle hints to the girlfriend nearer the time then! ;)

Both HarperCollins and Amazon UK state 3 Sep 2009 for hardback, 7 Jan 2010 for paperback.

It's usual for the paperback to be released later to maximise sales of the more expensive hardback, so I'd be surprised (but happy) if the Waterstones paperback date (28 May 2009) is correct.

Usual practice really, novels usually come out in hardback before the paperback too.

Glad I bought my current edition back in Jan, was pretty cheap then and has been invaluable - superb range of illustrations in this book, has been very useful on a number of occasions.

Right way up again
I don't mind if they put it off for a bit - the longer it is until it's out, then longer it is until I have to make a second edition of mine...

There were still some available at the Lodge RSPB at Sandy this lunchtime. Well worth buying.

Also some of the HB compies at RSPB Pulburough. I didn't realise the HB version was the same size as the PB. I'd assumed it was A4-sized same as the old one.

Well they've just emailed me to say the new "arrival date" is March 10-12th 2010. Doesn't say if that's arrival at Amazon, or my house!

I must be just ahead of you in the queue - my email said 9th March. This must the the 4th or 5th postponement. At this rate I'll be hoping to get it for Xmas 2010.

I've been emailed 8th March today, as a 'Prime' customer. That's pretty poor, and if I'd have known it was being further postponed I'd have bagged one of the WIldsounds or RSPB ones.

I have had the same email for the paperback version - March delivery, hardback is due for delivery next week.
