Once a bird lover ... always a bird lover
Yes, you are both correct! (hello Joao! Nice to see you again. I'm doing just fine, it's the same for you I hope.) Earlier in the thread, Peewit said Guillemot which I had forgotten was the equivalent to the Common Murre here in North America. My mistake, sorry! :-C Okay, now focus your attention on our next mystery bird!

Hi Progne Subis

Thanks for letting me know

I have got to admit I have never heard of the name 'Common Murre' in relation to 'Guillemot' before. I think it was based on a pure stab in the dark here.

I think it is when Larry guessed 'Parakeet Auklet' , and you said yes getting warmer. Something rang here.

According to my Oxford book, Guillemots they are about the size of Razer Bills with habits similair too. They can be confused with Grebes.
There seems to be a few types here. In GB they are divided into two races, the northern race. The northern have parts as dark as a Razerbill.. Those of the Southern are much more chocolate. There are Bridled Guillemots too. Another is a Brunnichs Guillemots and only lives in the far north. It has a shorter heavier bill, which has a white line along the upper mandible

Just some extra information here. Thanks for keeping me straight here.

Regards
Kathy

Sue, I don't think Little Grebe occurs in USA, does it?

I think I'd go with BBF, otherwise some duck, perhaps Cinammon Teal?

I was looking at the 'murre' photo and could have sworn it resembled a parakeet auklet, but now that the full picture is shown, I can see that the feathers are old and just about ready to moult.
Snow goose

Bird is the word...
OK, we now have the guesses Red-necked Grebe, Little Grebe, Cinnamon Teal and Snow Goose.

Unfortunately, none of which are correct. But... I will say that some of you are quite close!

Trouble is I almost believed you for a minute, must be desperation.

OK then, how about a Black-bellied Whistling Duck? If it ain't that then......

Not a Whistling-Duck I'm afraid... If all of you are still struggling after a few more guesses, I will grebe you *clears throat* excuse me, give you a clue.

So keep trying everybody!
