C'mon folks, don't give up!

I think we are all waiting for the other guy to eliminate some more possibilities. ;-) Plus, only you Western birders have the good fortune to see a diversity of hummingbirds on a regular basis.

In any event, nothing seems to fit perfectly. How about Costa's?

We have a winner! Costa's Hummer it is. I'm glad to live where I do. Although we have a few more Hummingbirds, you birders in the east are hogging all the warblers! ;) (I kid, I kid)

Here's a closer look at the fresh juvenile male Costa's Hummingbird (you can see the pale fringing on the mantle feathers, more extensive dusky markings on the gorget and ariculars, and reduced white edges to the outer three rectrix pairs) and the next quiz bird.

Hi there Tayler! It's been a long time, but it's great to see you back and to read that you've had such a great time.

How about an Elegant Tern? Remember, I'm at a disadvantage here, but well worth trying for.

Hi Sue! Nice to see you've made your way back to my quiz. :)

Certainly a good guess, but an Elegant Tern this isn't. Although we did see Elegant Terns at San Diego Bay...
