Coney Meadow and Adjoining Areas (20 Viewers)

2 Little Owls seen this morning - one perched on a telegraph pole near Woodbury Cottage and the other at Linacres paddocks. Yellowhammer near Chatley.
 
Grasshopper Warbler singing at Coney this evening and showing well from 21:15 to 21:30.
40+ Swallows and a couple of Sand Martins roosted.
Little Grebe this morning between Chatley and Hawford.
A Roe Deer in Knight's Grove woodland this morning.
Swifts, House Martins, Grey Wagtail, Linnets, Buzzard, Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers, Reed Buntings, Yellowhammers, Nuthatches and Coal Tits also seen.

2 Purple Hairstreaks seen in Droitwich Woods this morning. My first Gatekeepers of the year seen also.

Dragonflies this weekend included Emperor, Brown Hawkers, Black-tailed Skimmers, Broad-bodied Chaser and Southern Hawker.

9 Glow worms seen this evening.
 
A drake Tufted Duck over Coney this evening.
The Grasshopper Warbler sang continuously from a small briar in Coney from 21:20.

23 Glow worms seen - 1 Gorsey Bank, 1 by the allotments, 10 along the railway track and 11 along the grass verge /crash barrier of the Roman Way.
 
Noctule bats over Salwarpe

Over the last few evenings we have had some really good shows put on by Noctule bats over the field next to Village hall, over the road and The Villa. Two possibly three spending quit a bit of time foraging at around 10pm.
 
Hobby over Mildenham this morning and one over Droitwich yesterday.
Little Owl today and yesterday at Linacres paddocks.
Little Grebes - 2 adults and 4 juvs on small pool between Chatley and Hawford yesterday.

Singing Willow Warbler near Linacre bridge this morning.
2 Lesser Whitethroats near Moat Farm.
Kingfisher, Kestrels, Sparrowhawk, Grey Herons, regular warblers, Nuthatches, Coal Tits, Goldcrests, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers.

About 30 Swallows and 10 Sand Martins roosted this evening. 50+ Swifts, 1 Cormorant over and a Noctule Bat.

25 Glow worms counted on the way back.
 
32 Glow worms seen last night after 10:20 pm - the best nightly total so far this year.

c40 sand Martins roosted at Coney plus about 20 Swallows. 40+ swifts milling around.

2 Ravens flew over.
 
A Little Egret on the river near Hawford this morning.
Little Owl Linacres paddocks this morning and Friday.
Family party of Little Grebes again near Chatley.
Juv Cuckoo just west of Salwarpe this evening - cheers Nick.
120+ hirundines roosted at Coney this evening - about half Swallows and half Sand Martins.
Lesser Whitethroat singing along Chawson Lane yesterday. Several juv Reed Warblers seen this morning.

26 Glow worms seen this evening after dusk.
 
A Common Sandpiper along the canal near Hawford this morning - hopefully a sign that return passage is about to get going.

An adult and a juvenile Spotted Flycatcher at Chatley - must have bred nearby.

A fully fledged juvenile Cuckoo near Chatley - being fed by a Wren! I didn't even know Wrens were a potential host species.

Family party of Little Grebes on the small pool still.

A Mink swam down the river near Mildenham.
 
A Hobby over Chatley yesterday morning. 2+ Spotted Flycatchers still plus juv Cuckoo still being fed by a Wren.

An adult and a bright yellow juvenile Willow Warbler at Linacre Bridge. The adult (male) was singing.

Kingfisher on the river at Hawford on Saturday. Kestrels in various places, Sparrowhawks, Buzzards, Mistle Thrushes, Linnets, Common Whitethroats, Reed and Sedge Warblers, Pied wagtails, Sand Martins and Swallows, Swifts, Nuthatches, Coal Tits, Goldcrest, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers.

20 Glow worms yesterday evening (22nd July) and 24 on the 18th July.
 
2 eclipse Mandarins flew over Porter's Mill yesterday evening (23rd) and attempted to land on the canal.

Family party of Spotted Flycatchers again along the bridleway which runs between the flax fields near Chatley - difficult to know how many exactly as they were in a thick double hedgerow that runs along this section of the path - saw 2 at the same time but, judging by the calls, there were more hidden away.

Saw this little beast on the tarmac near Egg Lane - I think it's a Dark Bush Cricket Pholidoptera griseoaptera but I may be wrong - if anyone can confirm (or otherwise), please let me know. :t:

A Hobby put on a spectacular display this evening chasing hirundines over Coney. One over High Park early afternoon could have been the same bird. One also seen over Hawford on Friday.

3 Cormorants over this evening.

A female Mandarin was on Tapenhall pool today and a juvenile Little Grebe there on Friday. The family party of Little Grebes remain on the small pool near Chatley.

Lots of Warblers moving through the hedges at Coney on Friday - including 2 Lesser Whitethroats. 2 Yellowhammers there were more unusual (for Coney) - others seen in their more usual haunts near Chatley, Jacob's Ladder, Sinton Lane and Mayhouse Farm.

Just 6 Glow worms seen this evening.
 
A family party of Spotted Flycatchers along the canal near Mildenham this morning. 2 juveniles and at least one adult seen. Contact calls suggested there were more in the general area.

Adult and at least 2 juv Little Grebes still on the small pool near Chatley. 2 Yellowhammers near Chatley also.

My first Migrant Hawker of the year among the dragonflies seen
 
A Hobby over Hawford this morning and a Little Egret seen distantly in flight from Egg Lane.

A juvenile Willow Warbler this morning at Hawford and a singing male at Chatley yesterday.

A Little Owl at Linacres paddocks this morning.

A Kingfisher near Hawford on the river.

A Lesser Whitethroat yesterday near Porter's Mill and one at Linacre bridge on Friday.

A mixed flock of Linnets and Greenfinches near Chatley today and 4 Skylarks near there yesterday.

A few Swifts seen near Droitwich on Friday.

Sedge Warblers, Common Whitethroats, Reed Warblers, Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, Goldcrests, Nuthatches, Coal Tit, Kestrels, Sparrowhawks, Buzzards, Reed Buntings, Green and Great Sptted Woodpeckers plus most of the regular species.

About 200 Swallows roosted this evening at Coney plus a few Sand Martins.

Just 3 Glow worms this evening.
 
Adult Spotted Flycatchers along the canal at Tapenhall and at Linacre bridge this morning.

Willow Warbler passage getting underway with 2 near Hawford, one near Mildenham and 4 together near Chatley (including a nice yellow juv) - some quietly singing.

4 Cormorants over Chatley.

All the usual warblers including juv Sedge and a couple of Lesser Whitethroats.
 
A Peregrine this evening perched on a double telegraph pole near Droitwich Community Woods.

A Tawny Owl called from High Park at dusk. One heard calling from Droitwich Woods a couple of evenings ago.

About 100 Swallows and a few Sand Martins roosted.

Swifts now getting scarce but still a few around.

Little Owl calling from Linacres paddocks this morning (heard only).

Other birds this weekend included Raven, Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Grey Wagtail, Coal Tits, House Martins, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Sparrowhawk, Buzzards, etc.

Lots of Pipistrelles this evening.

Two Glow worms seen.
