Coney Meadow and Adjoining Areas (3 Viewers)

Hi everyone, new to this area and I walk down to the screen at the reedbed and most of the time see nothing but pigeons! Am I missing some little spots to see some stuff or is it just a patience issue?

Hi Ford40,

The reedbed at Coney is only a small fraction of the area covered. While this area can and does produce a decent selection of species it can, at times, appear virtually birdless. The whole patch requires a lot of patience and tenacity - it's not like Upton Warren, for instance, but it can and does yield rewards eventually. For instance, today I spent over an hour grilling a stretch of hedgerow after hearing a Lesser Whitethroat and was eventually rewarded with a Redstart. I understand that this type of birding is not for everyone.:t:

It was great watching the 2 Kites and 4 Buzzards soaring around together and 'dive-bombing' each other this morning.

As well as the Male and female Redstarts, the hedge contained Lesser and Common Whitethroats plus Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps and Linnets. Cormorant in the dead tree at Coney.

Swift over Copcut

Thank you Woodchat for the heads up. Wonderful hour this morning watching the Red Kite/s negotiating airspace with the Buzzards near High Park. Cormorant flew over. Swallows still feeding over the grass fields alongside a couple of Grey Heron. Lots of Partridge and Pheasant in the fields but I don't think they count : )

Can only add midday 10 Buzzard. Sparrowhawk. Green and GSW. 3 swallows.
Thinking of joining Saturday's #WestMidsAllDayer. At Coney and Adjoining areas if any one is about the area on Saturday could you report the birds you see on this forum would be interesting to see how many we could report.
