It's coming up to the peak time for Glow worms - 42 counted this evening - 6 on Gorsey Bank, 7 around the railway track, 13 around the allotments area and 16 along the Roman Way.

A decent roost of Swallows at Coney this evening - perhaps 200 plus a few Sand Martins.

A Muntjac crossed the A38 as I walked down.

Slim pickings, bird-wise, at this time of year:

A Red Kite this morning over Porter's Mill headed up the valley towards Ladywood.
A Cetti's Warbler showed well near Ladywood
A Cormorant over near Salwarpe
Raven near Salwarpe yesterday
Yellowhammer singing just north west of Salwarpe village yesterday
Common Whitethroats, Sedge Warblers, Reed Warblers, Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, Swifts, Swallows and House Martins plus Mistle Thrushes, Sparrowhawk, Buzzards, Nuthatch, Coal Tits, etc.

Marbled Whites still fairly numerous.
Several Brown Hawker Dragonflies

42 Glow worms seen again this evening.

c300 Hirundines roosted at Coney Meadow this evening - mainly Swallows but also double figures of Sand Martins.

Red kite circling low over Mildenham this afternoon
Scores of dead fish above the lock here too, mostly perch (including a whopper) but also a good number of pike and a few roach. Lots of different sizes and getting quite smelly, which was drawing in the lesser black-backed and black-headed gulls
I wonder if this spell of warm weather has caused a lack of oxygen in the water

A female Tawny Owl calling loudly from Chawson Lane allotments this evening.

Just 20 Glow worms seen

2 Noctule bats over Coney.

Sedge Warbler

Only a dozen or so Swallows roosted. Many Swifts and House Martins over Droitwich area.

A close encounter with a Fox.

A Small Copper on Gorsey Bank this morning

A Cetti's sang from the canal near Coney Meadow and another one was along the canal on the other side of Salwarpe village

Other birds noted included Ravens, Buzzards, Sparrowhawk, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Grey Heron, Lesser Whitethroat, Common Whitethroats, Reed Warblers, Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs.

A Spotted Flycatcher this morning along a field hedgerow near Jacob's Ladder.

A Red Kite over Mildenham

Kingfisher along the river between Tapenhall and Mildenham

A juvenile Willow Warbler along the canal between Salwarpe and Ladywood - usually an early sign of the start of Autumn passage.

A Brimstone butterfly seen plus a Ruddy Darter, Common Darters and Southern Hawkers among the Dragonflies.

Swifts have gone.
They may have departed their breeding areas over Droitwich but they are still present further afield. A flock of 12+ were just north west of Salwarpe village this morning.

Last year, a large flock gathered and lingered for a week or so in August around Chatley. Migrating individuals and flocks usually occur into September most years.

Kingfisher seen along the canal near Salwarpe this morning also. They've been thin on the ground this year compared to previous years.

Midday walk highlights, new chawson pair swifts, Sparrowhawk, house sparrows. Canal Reed warbler. Around Salwarpe terrapin, Heron, pair of swifts, good numbers swallows
