[QUOTE="maltese falcon, post: 1595521, member: 79595"] As you may know in my country, we have an extremely serious situation involving hunters and trappers. In this appeal I want to make to everyone in the whole planet to come to Malta during the Autumn and Spring Migration to help with camps called Raptor Camp and Springwatch. During these camps the members will be split up into various locations in the Maltese Islands and monitor the birds as well as the illegal hunters. These camps will help the future of the bird population of Europe. The helpless birds get shot at before they can even land, just a few days ago the first two black storks of the season where shot at less than 1 hour after they arrrived at Malta. One was killed and the other one is probably ( 99% chance) injured. I have seen those actual two majestic birds coming into the island. I am ashamed to be of the same nationality as the hunters who shot at them. Until a few years ago we had peregrines, kestrel, barn owl and short eared owl used to breed in the Maltese Archipelago but not any more. This year was the first year a kestrel had bred in Malta since 1994. Also a few days ago a "bird cemetery" was found in Mizieb and ,till now, more than 200 dead birds were found. My appeal to the birding community of the entire planet is to come to Malta and participate in these camps.
