A visit to the Caradon area of the County was fairly productive today. At my first stop at Wacker Quay 14 Little Egret, 2 Great Crested grebe and 2 Greenshank were on offer from the Lay-by but the best bird was a fly over Crossbill.
Moved on to Torpoint and from Marine Drive 13 Mediterranean Gulls were present together with 8 Sandwich Terns, 29 Redshank, 12 Ringed Plover, 2 Dunlin and 2 Little Egret.
Has I had my family with me, we then when off to Looe, and from Hannafore there was 5 Turnstone, 3 Ringed plover, 3 Little Egret, and 3 Sandwich Tern.

Not a bad day, (and I am in my wifes good books).

Spent some time up on Gwennap head this friday and last sunday. Both days when I retired for a pasty a Cory's went past and I couldnt get a pass for the good days but saw lots of Balearic and Manx Shearwaters plus a few Sooties several Bonxies, a couple of Arctic Skuas and a single Pom on friday. A couple of Basking Sharks were very nice on friday also. As were some Harbour Porpoises. Also tried Trevose Head for a few hours midweek and had a few manxies and a single Balearic past plus 3 Peregrines bombing each other overhead.
Hayle Estuary produced over 20 Little Egrets and lots of gulls and Curlew plus single Oystercatcher and Common Sandpiper.

Tried again for the RC Starling at Hayle this morning, to no avail. Good flock of Starlings on Towans at back of Phillack Church but no Rosy with them.

A couple of Crossbills around the Rame area today. I heard one near the church but it (or another) had also been seen at the head. Also a few Wheatears starting to crop up along the military road.

Aquatic Warbler reported at Marazion today.

Anyone know who reported the above to Birdguides?? Lands End ringing group were at Marazion all morning from first light and never had a sniff of an Aquatic!

Same with the Little Stint at high tide today at Hayle? Great views of the Osprey but i was there at high tide and spoke to most of the other birders around at that time and no-one mentioned a Little Stint?

I haven't got a clue who reported it Paul, but you know what it's like - mid August, Marazion - THE place for Aquatic Warblers!!

Call me sceptical if you like but we get reported birds every year, though we haven't had a bone fide properly described/caught ringed/ photographed/ mass-twitched bird at this site since 1999*

*I think that's right - I'm at work and all my reports are at home ;)

Gary Lewis it was.

Yeah, thanks. He left a comment on the website. Strange how he didnt mention it to the ringers that were there isn't it? Says he will be sending a description to Darrell. Ironic that he's doing a cornwall year list. Hasnt he also claimed a Marsh Warbler and Whiskered Tern that no-one else saw this year?
Call me sceptical too!
The Osprey was showing well again on the estuary today, nice photo on the website.
