A ringtail Hen Harrier crossed the road at Winnards' Perch this morning, nearby 200 Redwings were feeding in a field near St Jidgey.

This evening at a very wet Tregonetha Downs 2 male Hen Harrier and a single Merlin roosted.

On the way home across Rosenannon Downs, 6 Woodcocks were flushed off the road.

Does anyone have any info. on the White-rumped Sand., where's best to see it, state of tide etc.

Will probably try for it on Monday.

Basically anywhere - at any state of tide! ;)

That's not quite true. When we found it the tide was almost full, but a fishing competition had disturbed many birds from their usual roost sites so they had relocated at the ford, and the White-rumped Sand was feeding around the outfall before flying off towards the wall at HMS Raleigh.

I think it has been seen at the ford a couple of time since, and from what I've heard it has been feeding fairly near the road. It has also been seen a couple of times from Chapeldown road at low tide around a red boat (don't know how many red boats there are there!) - beware the small Dunlin though!

I would say try the ford at high tide and Chapeldown Road any other time. If you go can you check out if there is a Black-necked Grebe? I've had a couple of possible reports - also can you tell me the make up of the Brent Goose group? they were in the sun last week and it was impossible to tell Pale from Dark-bellied.

Gyr and Snowy Owl in Cornwall today then, must be feeling distinctly arctic for those lucky enough to connect with both!
Thanks. Henerz.

Anyone watching my end of the county over the next few days might like to search for a "Scaup" on St Johns Lake!

It has always been quite distant and usually in the sun but I'd appreciate any opinions.

As for me, I've got a taste for Arctic birds after seeing the Snowy Owl yesterday so I'm off to Yorks for a few days to appreciate all those Waxwings and Rough-legged Buzzards.
