189 Common Rosefinch (AMcG).
190 Wood Sandpiper (AO'D).
191 Baird's Sandpiper (DB).

Some pics of the juvenile Baird's Sandpiper out on the very tip of Mweenish Island at Tawin this evening. Also had Paul's adult White-rumped Sandpiper briefly on two occasions along with a single Curlew Sandpiper, 2 Sanderling and 2 Knot. Not a huge amount of small waders out there it has to be said, I'd would normally see much bigger numbers out West surprisingly.
Also a pic of a juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper out on Gorteen near Roundstone on Wednesday

Juvenile American Golden Plover with the juvenile Dotterel and 27 Eurasian Golden Plover at Truska this evening in torrential rain. Deja vu!
With TEN Semipalmated Sandpipers in Mayo in the last week we're still waiting for one here on mainland Connemara..
I've also posted some video of the Dotterel from yesterday up on Youtube.

194 Common Redstart, Slyne Head, 29th September (DB).

Some record shots of an adult White-rumped Sandpiper at Mannin Bay yesterday. Also a record shot of the plover flock with AGP on the left, Buff-breasted Sandpiper just to the right and the Dotterel to the right of a Eurasian Golden Plover (its facing away from the camera but you can make out the pale "V" on the back of the head where the supercilia meet). Yesterday was probably one of the best days birding I've had in Galway with the following todays all from the Slyne Head area - Juvenile Dotterel, juvenile American Golden Plover, adult White-rumped Sandpiper, three juvenile Pectoral Sandpipers, two juvenile Buff-breasted Sandpipers, male Common Redstart and one Lapland Bunting.

195 Green Sandpiper, Angliham, 29th September (TG).
196 Yellow Wagtail, Ardmore, Kilkieran, 30th September (DB).

I could hear the Yellow Wagtail calling while on the phone. It was feeding along the high tide mark on a sandy beach along with 2 Pied Wagtails, odd spot for one. I managed to just get the one shot of it before one grossly obese tourist with a camera "waddled" right in front of me and flushed it, thank you sir!

Two Yellow Wagtails at Barna Pier yesterday evening still present this morning. Feeding on the seaweed to the right of the slipway at the base of the pier. Baffling how scarce this species is in the county.

Baffling how scarce this species is in the county.

I thought I posted this question yesterday. Must have missed post button or else it was deleted :eek!: Anyway here goes again.

Surely you mean country? If not, why do you expect them to be more common in Galway?

Some more pics of the flava wagtail at Barna Pier from yesterday.
I've been birding in Galway for ten years on and off and the bird I saw on Friday was the first one I've seen here. The species seems to be seen with more regularity in counties Mayo and particular Clare.
Todays totals from Hugh Delaney out on Inishmore include one juvenile Baird's Sandpiper, one adult Semipalmated Sandpiper, one Curlew Sandpiper, one Pied Flycatcher, two Spotted Flycatcher, one Blackcap and one Goldcrest. Not a bad start!!

I hadn't realized they were more common in neighbouring counties. Irishbirding shows just one record each for Mayo, Galway and Clare. I know not everyone logs sightings there though |;|

Yes, Galway seems to be very quiet during the last year if you were just relying on Irishbirding. There have just been 6 Yank waders reported to it from here so far but in reality there have now been 23 individual Yank waders here this Autumn!

200 Hobby, Aillebrack, Slyne Head, 8th October (Mike & Miryam Harris).

I'm after returning from a five day trip out on Inishmore, all in all a disastrous trip. Fog/rain for three days straight and winds never got below Force 5. 1 Turtle Dove the only thing of note when I was out there. Hugh Delaney had a Baird's and Semi-p Sand but they disappeared before I got out. I think I'll be sticking to Slyne Head in future. Anthony had another Rosefinch and 2 rostrata Redpolls on Inishbofin.
