I'm wondering if the majority of your concerns stem from this.Nowt to be done about the direction of the light and the burn out on the back etc, that had to be fixed in the taking of the pic and no amount of twiddeling will fix that I guess. Given that, the only crit I would give (personally) is the crop, I think that the pose deserves a more central position in the frame as I don't think there is enough of the bird leaning to the left to apply the 'give it space to where it's looking' rule. There's just too much empty space to the left to make this feel comfortable. You said it yourself that the original works better than the crop - the bird is central in the original.To pick up on something else you said, I do wish the gallery was more critical as it would help a lot.ChalkyPs.
