Dogs should be trained properly (which includes keeping their feet down) and kept under control (which doesn't have to mean on a lead but does require line of sight and paying attention.)Re cats in the garden: you can get a device called a catwatch which combines an IR motion sensor with an ultrasonic transmitter that sees them off straight away. The only one I ever saw that ignored it turned out to be elderly and deaf. It didn't seem to affect our dog or other mammals such as foxes.John</blockquote>
