Country Club May 10, 2015

Had a great late afternoon at the Jinshitan Country Club with my parents. Saw a Brown Shrike that was different from what I usually see by having a grey cap. Upon having a look in Brazil's book, I see that it was a lucionensis and it says that this is found in Jilin and Liaoning! I can say with some certainty that this is not the normal sub specie that migrates through Dalian. Other highlights were a White-throated Rock Thrush which I haven't seen in 2 or more years, 2 Swinhoes's/Rufous-tailed Robins, and the first Siberian Blue Robin of the year. Migrants everywhere!

Nice woodpecker! You don't see these rufous-bellied too often do you? Are they just migrating through or breed there? (I still haven't seen one yet.)

Thanks for lots of nice pics.

Thanks Mark, the workers in the Country Club have trimmed several large trees and left the branches in a long pile right beside the water there. The migrants love looking for food in them. Excellent place for photography of Swinhoe's Robin, Pale-legged, Arctic Warblers, flycatchers etc.... so far this year. Even a Woodcock was poking around in it a couple weeks back. Because of the cover, they hardly move as you walk by.

Gretchen, Rufous-bellied Woodpecker is annual but never common during migration times.
