I bet anyone finding an Alpha in their Christmas stocking tomorrow won`t be saying "awwh, I wanted a Tract " :h?:

Well said, and a Merry Christmas to you and everyone else on BF.
Have a great New Year too.

Cheers, Prosit, Slainte, Kipis, Chin-chin, Salut etc etc (hic)

As with all of these types of threads, this one seems to be going to bad places.......

Actually I thought it has headed toward some friendly banter for the most part. All in the holiday spirit.

...... I'll just say that I was just as happy out in the field and just as pleased with my optics when I used the Kowa Genesis as I am with the FL or the EL I used to have.

That is one of the great things about being a binocular enthusiast. You can see endearing qualities in a lot of models and enjoy them for what they are. :t:

Thanks Bruce, but you guys in the States don't seem to take Christmas all that seriously. In the UK many businesses shut down for a full week, so we start our festivities on Christmas Eve and stretch them out to New Years Day, with time off (for good behaviour) in between.

Have a great one, everybody:king:

You ent sin me roit.....
Yes, things like hang, ergonomics, and focusing speed are critically important over here because we have so many more birds within such a wild and rugged landscape. The action is often fast and furious, so birding is like running through an obstacle course combined with marksmanship, and we have so many species and individuals in a given outing that physically managing the bin and getting on the bird quickly are important for sorting through it all.

:)

Ha dream on pal B :)

When i get to pelee or michigan in may i'm certainly gonna look for birders and these Bins brands i haven't heard of, and ask for a little peek, got to satisfy my burgeoning curiosity, and strive for some sort of entente cordiale, and no its not a drink 8-P

I bet after looking through both, whoever bought them will say "why the $%^# did I spend the extra cheddar on those"?

Why stop there? There are many really good Kamakura models, so this is nothing new. Try out a sub $500.00 Bushnell Elite and you might just think you wasted alot of cash on your Trac's or Maven's.

It's pointless to try to tell someone how foolish they are for what they buy / own. My house is small - maybe yours is big - I might think you are wasting your money, but I'm sure you wouldn't think that way. Same goes with cars, electronics, clothes, food etc. etc. etc. This is all just topical again because the old alpha prophet has now seen the light and is actively recruiting for his new ministry.

And it's also pointless to try to tell people that they can't see a difference - even when they say they CAN see a difference. I don't buy into this ''alpha'' shaming - or whatever shaming, it's just a personal choice.

What I am trying to say James is these newer Kamakura binoculars like the Tract Toric and Maven are really GAME CHANGERS. The Bushnell Elite shouldn't be used in the same sentence with these two binoculars. These two binoculars have fantastic optics and incredible build quality JUST like the alphas for a lot less money and my opinion is once people TRY them the Alpha's are history. They will be extinct like the Passenger Pigeon.:-C

Glad you think so Dennis. Enjoy your bins.
But enough of the stuffing them down our throats already :-O
We got the message. Time will tell if you are right.

In the meantime other super mid-priced bins are available like Conquest HD, Meopta MeoStar and Kowa Genesis, and as James pointed out there are budget bins that are great value too like his Bushnell, or Opticrons or Vanguard Endeavour.

Merry Christmas Dennis, but please calm down or you won't survive until New Years :eek!:

I'm glad you put finally your foot down Lee, that will surely put an end to all of this. :-O

That is the point of the thread.
Alpha's are dead.

That's rhymes doesn't it?;)[/QUOTE

Hmmm but 7 syllables in the first line and 4 in the second mean that as poetry it doesn't scan or make any sense at all.

In other words its cobbled together with no sense of form or logic and just a vague hope that nobody will notice that it doesn't really add up.

OK, this thread is a good place for it :-O

Dennis,

Careful. You are starting your typical Dennis first slide down the slippery slope of Dennis being Dennis. Pretty soon you will reach terminal velocity. Look back in your history. That never ends well for you. I once read a definition of insanity that identified it as doing the same crazy things over and over and expecting different results.

As good as some less expensive glass is these days, alphas are in no danger. This is a purely subjective discussion with no possible positive, objective outcome. Negative outcomes practically guaranteed. Buy what you like, use what you buy and enjoy the time outdoors.

Let me extend my personal wishes for a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a peaceful, prosperous New Year to everyone. :t:
