........ The Zulu 7 8x42 has a polymer frame and looks similar to the Tract Toric. ............

Dennis ..... You think the Toric and Zulu 7 look simiiar?

00 - Compare Tract Zulu.jpg

If so, then you might consider getting an inexpensive Barska and save even more money because you will most likely find the view similar to the Toric. ;)

I had a Zulu 5 42mm, which is the one more similar to the Toric than Zulu 7. In one word: terrible! It went back immediately.
Thanks for the feedback, Pesto. Good to know. Have you ever tried a Tract Toric or a Maven? You didn't care for the Nikon MHG did you?

I had both the Toric 10x42 (two samples) and the Maven 8x30. Both are good binos but imo they're not close to the alphas either mechanically or optically. The Toric's eyecups did not stay in place and collapsed rather frequently, and the sweet spot of one of the tubes was rather small due to field curvature and astigmatism (the other tube did not have this problem). The Maven had a sticky armor (minor) and serious glare issues (as bad as in the Lynx) as well as blackout problems (possibly fixable, as the eyecups are removable). The CS of both companies is excellent (direct line to the owners etc.) but neither bino was a keeper for me as neither could add anything to my current "alphas": SV, SF, EDG and SE. So here are my predictions:
a)Tract and Maven will get a share of the market (they deserve it, as their binos are good in the price segment up to 1000$) but nothing that can threaten the share of the alphas.
b)The alphas will not die and their share will remain nearly constant (with Swaro taking the lion share).
c)Some owners of Maven and Tract binos (who should remain nameless) will switch (again) to alpha binos to satisfy the prophecies in a) and b) above
(and also because after this thread will die out, we need another thread....).

Pythia ;) ,

how is Delphi these days ?

I am sure the predictions of your oracle are as correct as they were all through history, so I have placed a bet on your prediction and purchased another alpha which I am going to sell to some poor guy getting rid of his Maven.

Thanks for being so clear in this latest prediction (your oracle was mostly rather vague in the past ...)

Every Tract/Kamakura is actually a bit different, it's called sample variation...
o:D
I really think the Japanese that build the Tract and Maven have some of the best QA in the world. Better than the Germans, Americans, Austrians and ESPECIALLY the Chinese! What cars have the best reliability? Japanese built Toyota's.:t:

Shame. You could have bought three Tracts.

Dennis, Post 929,
Reading your post I get the impression that you saw the bottom of a whiskey bottle after emptying it. What to think of BMW, Mercedes, Mauser, Saer, Steyer? And QA in the US, Germany, Austria etc. to pieces? Nice joke though.

The Irish were probably drunk when they built that boat.B :)

It was a ship, not a boat, you landlubber. Boats are small or they are submarines. Titanic was a ship and it never actually sank. This was just a story put out by the White Star Line that owned it. We know this for a fact because James Cameron made a movie called Titanic and the ship appeared in it so it couldn't have sunk all those years ago.

And just to get us all back on track, does anyone know what James Cameron thinks about the mythical death of alphas? We should be told. Perhaps he will make a movie about it called Alien Alphas starring Sigourney Weaver as Dennis, Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump, and Cate Blanchett as Chosun Juan. Tag-line: In Colorado no-one can hear you scream.............. The original intention was for George Clooney to play me and he has already verbally accepted the part but I have called Denzel to ask him to take the part instead: George looks so much like me it would have been embarrassing just trying to walk down the street. Unfortunately Denzel is nervous about accepting because he is afraid he might get banned by Blue Steve if he gets carried away talking about collimation :-O

Oh I think most WOULD agree with Lexus build quality. Probably no better. Saying that....I've ALWAYS wanted to buy a Lexus, but when it comes to driving I've always preferred BMW's way of doing things.
You know a Lexus is in reality better quality than a bimmer but you like the image and stigma attached with a BMW. Same way with alpha binoculars.
