Hmmm. I've been distracted, and haven't checked in for a while. This is still running :h?::eek!::-C

I'd like to say I'm confused, shocked and depressed by this - yet, somehow, I'm not :stuck:

Thanks. Have you seen Chosun anywhere down under?
Afraid not. I have the impression of somewhere north of me, though I'm not sure why. I doubt even my 10x56 FLs could see that far - and I sure haven't been getting out much further than my balcony, lately, mostly because of work.

Yes, but that is because the Japanese don't try to cover up problems like VW. If they know they have a problem they recall them. Who knows what problems some of the other manufacturers have covered up.

That might be generally true of Japanese companies (not just auto companies) but it isn't 100%: look up the Olympus financial scandal.

And anyway you are trying to change the premise of this argument which was your notion that the Japanese have a perfect quality record and others don't.

As usual there is a solid grain of truth in what you say but you will take it to extremes that cannot be supported.

On the other hand, an M series BMW is waaaaaaay more fun to drive...And so is the halfway house MPA series...

PS that animal in Troubador's avatar is an otter.
Awww, an Otter I should have guessed. I agree about a BMW being more fun to drive. The big Mercedes are kind of an "Old Man's" car don't you think?

VW tried to cover up that fuel mileage fiasco. Not good. I don't think the Japanese are perfect. I just think their QA in general is better than most of the other countries. Especially China. I really feel the Tract Toric and the Maven are built to higher standards than Zeiss or Leica. Look at all the problems Zeiss had with the SF rollout. Their QA let many, many bad binoculars out the door before they rectified the problems.

Dennis, when I get on a commercial plane and see that first class seats have been converted to economy class I might start to agree with you. Maybe you should consider your models the equivalent of exit row seats. Better than economy but not quite the same as first class. Trust me, they aren't the same.
I don't know. I have had a lot of alpha's and I am happier overall with my Tract's and my Maven. Just the fact that I have no RB and I have a silky smooth focus with the Tract's and Maven's is enough to convince me I don't need an alpha anymore. I really like how the Tract's and Maven's pan. It just feels more natural to me and really you do a lot of panning when you are birding. The focus is REALLY important to me. Swarovski's focus were ok but honestly they were never as smooth.

We kicked their butt in WWII.:t:

Yes, when you eventually showed up.;)

Yes in conjunction with umpteen other nations including Russia that suffered 20M dead.

And for all our more balanced US friends: apologies for my response to Dennis's flippant posting. WWII wouldn't have had the result it did without the intervention of the USA, Dennis just seems to forget there were others involved.
