in area with no general access though may possible be viewable from the public footpath on Repton side of River Trent

Per BGuides - interesting record. Just trying to piece together exactly where it is. Some time since I have seen a Derbyshire BT.

Just back from viewing the BT Diver. It's on what used to be called Pylon pit which is the pit south of the fishermans pit. To view you need to walk down the road towards Repton and take the public footpath on the other side of the river. Look for the pylons to get bearings as to where the pit is. Need to view over the river. Fortunately the bird was favouring the river end of the pit this afternoon.

Map link of approximate view point may be of help here: http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=429085&y=326760&z=120.

Hi Daniel thanks for the reply. I have heard that cut-throat bridge can be a good area for RO, but I'll PM you near to when we are coming up. Its a shame to hear about the persecution of raptors in today’s society, education is the way forward on this & maybe if the gamekeepers had good views of these beautiful birds they might come around...
I agree with you on Dotterel, it was more hope that there may be a traditional trip site for these birds, but if not I know a few sites in Norfolk!
Cheers

Re Dotterel - last year I came to Choseley for a trip (!) from Derbyshire, so think you might have more chance than we do here. But you never know....we did have a couple of lingerers in May.

Cut throat is well known and publicised but gets disturbed for that reason.

B T Diver showing well from Platform 3 at Willington this afternoon so viewing much easier if it lingers......

Now up to 60 Waxies outside my office and near Yeomans outlet at Barlborough. Easy viewing from the windows but a complete lack of fieldcraft from some visitors has seen them chased around the area.

Okdoke, I wouldnt want to be responsible for disturbing a scarce breeder so I'll just keep my fingers crossed we get one in the derwent area. Cheers Daniel

Just to confirm, is the bird still on the fishing lakes or the reserve, as on RBA it was reported twice again today from the footpath along the river??

Thanks in advance

showing well from platform 3

I am waiting on a call from one of the locals who will know if its viewable from the reserve. It does seem to have been reported from the reserve and the river path in quick succession.

Moorlands Macro: Close up and personal....with bug
Cromford

Spent an hour around the Cromford area to search for Hawfinch, saw one in the top af a tree near the church opposite the rugby club, then I saw movement in one of the yews and decided to wait, glad I did as this beauty showed well until a squirell came along and scared it off. Met up with a couple of local guys and had a nice chat.

Plenty of little grebes showing on the canal.

Neil.

Cheers Dave, I did stick it out and waited quite a while for it to show, glad I did though, it's not very often they show this close.

3 Great Northern Divers again present at Carsi today. The Smew was near the draw off tower early morning and then briefly at Sheepwash later in the day. 2 Pintail, female Goosander, c35 Goldeneye, 3 Redshank and the usual Yellow-legged Gull.

The oddest thing today was when I left Sheepwash hide in the almost dark at about 17.05. I walked through the first gate to see a chap walking down towards the hide. He hadn't got any optics but if he did they would have to be night vision ones anyway. Not a clue what he was doing.

Dont worry about Cutthroat mate - it will be busy with birders looking for them in spring so a couple more wont make much difference.......

Not sure how viewable it would be from Platform 3 - this could be a misleading report. It certainly sounds like the river path is best bet from info recd last night.
